Master Pastelist Dennis Rhoades Selected as Juror
for 2013 AANC National Exhibit
"My paintings are impressions of nature, not simply a replication of what is there. The subjects are from road trips throughout the Southwest, where I find inspiration at nearly every turn."
"I focus on vibrant, imaginative color and strong design. Each work starts with small sketches, using large areas of color that are the building blocks of the composition. Once a design is finalized, a line drawing in charcoal becomes the first step on the new board. A transparent layer in terracotta provides the backdrop--a middle value that peeks through the top layers and gives warmth to the finished painting. I call the works “paintings” to emphasize that they are created from shapes, not lines, as a drawing would be.."
We are proud to announce that the Juror for our 22nd AANC National Exhibition and Sale will be Dennis Rhoades of Evergreen, CO. Dennis has been designated a Master Pastelist by the Pastel Society of America, one of only 130 such honorees in the art society’s history. He is also a signature member of the Pastel Society of Colorado and a member of the Pastel Society of New Mexico and the Midwest, as well as the Impressionists Society of the Midwest.
His pastel paintings have received special awards in the Pastel Society of America juried exhibitions (2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009), the Pastel Society of Colorado National Show (2004) and 4th place in Pastel Journals’ 100 Best ( 2005). In addition, the Pastel Society of Colorado honored him with the prestigious “Best of Show” award in 2003.
He has also been featured in several national publications, including International Artist, a six page article in a recent issue of the Pastel Journal, the PSA publication ‘Pastelagram’ 2010 and the featured artist in the internationally published “http://www.painterskeys.com” February 15, 2008 Newsletter.
Rhoades’ colorful paintings are found in corporate collections such as U.S. Steel, Rockwell International, CoBank of Denver, and the Castle Rock, Colorado Town Hall. He also receives numerous commissions from private collectors.
Rhoades teaches at the Evergreen Art Center (Evergreen, CO), his Evergreen Studio and also presents intensive Pastel Workshops throughout the Mid & Southwest. His work can be seen/purchased at Carol Robertson Agency in Ruidoso, New Mexico and The Link Gallery in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He also sells his work at the finest arts festivals in the country, including Main Street Fort Worth Arts Festival (TX), Kimball Fine Arts Festival (Park City, UT), and The Sausalito Art Fair (CA).

Juror Demonstration to be Held
In conjunction with the 22nd National Exhibition, a Juror Demonstration by Dennis Rhoades will be held 3:00pm – 4:30pm on Friday, April 5th, at Everyday Joe’s (see map), 144 South Mason Street, just around the corner from the Exhibition in Ft. Collins, Colorado. The fee is $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
